AN AUSPICIOUS OUTLOOK - Red. What an auspicious colour for an outlook over a Holland canal. Along the back wall of the canal is a porch that juts out over the water. The side door leads out onto the balcony for residents & their guests, allowing for a more scenic view left and right as the Narrowboats & Barges float by. I took this shot in colour to capture the red ‘window box’ and kept the foreground in black silhouette. But, I couldn’t resist adding some red and green to pick out some of the muted detail, like the massive tree trunk, mossy sidewalk and tied-down sail on a docked boat. Such a pleasant view this was at the time…soft sounds of people walking, shopping arm in arm, picture taking and families gathering around their boat decks in the sun for lunch. Just a few calm moments of contented living, even in the middle of a big city.

LARGER THAN LIFE: When we lived in the Bahamas, we tried to make each day out on our boat an adventure. Didn’t really matter what or where, just something different and interesting. Once, while floating along, we found ourselves right under a massive Aircraft Carrier in the harbour. This was an oddity, as there were no Cruise Ships in the harbour at all at that time. Since we arrived in a slow and quiet way, no one seemed to mind too much. I don’t think anyone would be able to accomplish that these days… Such a humongous vessel. The links in the chain appeared “Larger Than Life”.

RUE du TRÉSOR II ~ Since 1960 in Old Quebec there is a street where Artists exhibit and sell their work from mid-May to October. Like our “Off The Wall Art Show” here, visitors can meet and mingle with the Artists and learn about their creations & methods. Every Artist has a story to tell, and most Artists generally love to talk about their work and themselves!
