A SOUND BITE ~ I’m not a Bass Guitar player, but here’s some silly trivia I saw online… If you’re a newbie Bass Guitar player, you can play the song, “Smoke on the Water,” or “Everyday People” by Sly & The Family Stone, just by playing an open G-String. Any number of tempos or strumming techniques works - just play the G-String for the whole song!  I like to guess what song is about to play just by only hearing the first note - for example, when I hear the first note of “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” from The Wizard Of Oz, all I need to hear is the first note on ‘Some’ and that does it - even if it’s in a different arrangement. This Abstract Photo is like sound - every time I look at it, I see it in a different way. As a matter of fact I have quite a few versions of this picture. But just like a popular song, someone’s always coming up with a new ‘improved’ version, but most everyone secretly likes the first one that they hear, or in this case, see. I hope you like it!

ROSEVILLE - Going on a photo road-trip with an artist friend always leads to something good. In reality, this composition of a marina was quite muted in colour, except for one door, (so I changed it to an intense Turquoise with a Red door for the 1st printing).  Changing the overall saturation to Red Rose with a Turquoise door, or any other intense colour mix works for me.  I agree with the notion that, ‘art doesn’t have to match the couch’ - it just depends on your Point of View... see the example below.

DESERT HIGHWAY - Driving alone on a Desert Highway from the Pacific Coast to Phoenix or Vegas can take some getting used to. Like the Canadian Prairies, miles flatter-than-flat, the road ahead eventually meets the blue sky and resembles an infinity pool (but without the swim-up cocktail bar). The sameness can be maddening without a CD player, but just when you’re about to turn around and retreat out of boredom, you come upon some majestic Saguaro or cactus blooms - some that won’t even flower until they at least 30 years old. Layered rock walls and ever-changing hues in yellow, red, purple and orange can suddenly float down like a blanket across the entire landscape. On occassion, you’ll come across a ‘rock hound’ that has set up their table with a fine collection of Cabochons to rifle through - and barter for a gem. My Graphic Art Photo represents this sort of trip. I know that even if I travel the exact same road each time I go, there will always a gift to discover if I just go that extra mile.

HIGH RISE ~ I’ve been thinking about all the people living in high rise buildings - how they’re coping with the pandemic, and how terribly difficult it has been for them. Just navigating an elevator once a day in safety is stressful enough, especially if you live on the top floor of a huge city building. This Photo Collage is an off-shoot of my “Tokyo” collage - thinking about the number of people in that city. Using the same colours and style - it’s meant to show that no matter who or where you are, inside your little space in the sky is your beautiful oasis. It’s where you can survive. Lock your fears outside the door, turn off your cell and breathe in safety. So many people have so much less. So many have nothing. Give thanks today for the family you have, for your friends & your loved ones. How fragile we are. How resilient we are becoming.
