RISING TIDE II ~ At the annual “Off The Wall Art Show” in 2019, I decided to add some paintings to my usual display of photos on canvas as I had done the 4 years prior. I love IMPASTO! - painting with great gobs of saturated colour lathered onto a palette knife - making the consistency of icing, looking sweet & almost edible! When I was younger I used oil paint, but now, drying times and climate temperatures here in Canada are not always favourable using oils Impasto-style for me. Thick oil paint can take up to a full year to completely dry, and living with the odour indoors in smaller rooms during the Winter is not so good. So, Acrylics seemed a natural alternative. Being water-soluble, you can really go for it, not worrying too much about the occasional splatter on the cat (just kidding!) Actually, in Vancouver I had a large canvas laying flat on the rec-room floor waiting for the oil paint to dry, and my cat ran through a corner of the painting and onto the light grey carpet. He left the cutest little pussycat toe prints that dissipated in the printing as he scooted off. Instead of being scolded for this, Mom just tilted her head, raised her eyebrows, said, “Oh,” turned, walked away and left the cat prints on the carpet to dry! Loved that about her. She was a great Mom.

EVENING STROLL: One of the most popular landscape painting themes is of two people walking - down a beautiful lane, on a beach, just walking together. This Photo of my Impasto-style Oil painting is my attempt at two lovers strolling along a new path. Saturated oil paint colour using a palette knife is so delectable and rewarding - makes me want to paint the side of a mountain with a snow shovel.
